BCS Hacks is a hackathon for students in UBC's Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) second-degree program. It's an opportunity to bring ideas to life, explore new technologies, and collaborate with fellow students to build something meaningful.
Whether you're an experienced developer or writing your first lines of code, BCS Hacks is a space to experiment, learn, and challenge yourself. You don't need to have everything figured out before you begin. Bring your curiosity, find your team, and see what you can create.
One of the strengths of the BCS community is the diversity of experiences people bring to computer science. Students come from different academic disciplines, professional backgrounds, and walks of life. We want to see that diversity reflected in the projects built at BCS Hacks 2026.
Maybe you'll build a tool that solves a problem you've encountered in your previous field. Maybe you'll use technology to make a positive social impact. Maybe you'll explore an unfamiliar technology, turn an unconventional idea into a working prototype, or build something simply because you've always wanted to.
Requirements
Your project can take many forms: a web application, a mobile app, an AI-powered tool, a hardware prototype, a developer tool, or something entirely different.
You can tackle a problem you care about, explore an idea you've been thinking about, or experiment with a technology you've never used before.
We're interested in projects that demonstrate creativity, thoughtful problem-solving, effective use of technology, and the willingness to turn an idea into something tangible.
Most importantly, we want you to enjoy the process, learn something new, and leave with something you're proud of.
